Books like A Court of Thorns and Roses
Fae courts, slow-burn danger and romance at the centre.
The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent
A human raised by vampires enters a deadly tournament, with the same mix of brutal stakes and slow-burn romance.
+ A fun read that handles familiar tropes well, with plenty to enjoy for fans of Fourth Wing and Maas.
− The deadly tournament starts before you know the characters, the world needs clearer explanation, and little feels new. (summed up from Blogging with Dragons)Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco
A witch strikes a bargain with a prince of Hell. Dark, sensual and full of court intrigue.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
A Beauty and the Beast retelling, like ACOTAR's opening, with a cursed prince and a grounded heroine.
Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
The same author's adult series: a modern city of fae, angels and shifters, with a big romance and a mystery.
The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen
A spy princess marries the enemy king she was sent to destroy. Enemies-to-lovers with a political plot.
