Kaffe · a free, private bookshelf

A reading list app for couples

Couples who read often trade recommendations, then forget them. Kaffe gives each of you a shelf and makes it easy to see what the other one loved.

You each make an account with a name and a password. No email or real name is needed. One of you sends your invite link to the other. That's a reading circle of two: you see each other's to-read lists and top picks, and you can each choose to share your full shelf too. Nobody else can see it unless you invite them.

Then use compare shelves. Kaffe shows the books you've both read and, more usefully, the books your partner rated highly that you haven't read yet (and the other way round). If there's nothing that qualifies, it says so instead of making up a pick. You can also keep a shared list of books you want to read together, or start a readalong on one book in a private circle where each of you tracks your own progress.

Each book page can hold a short note from you, up to 280 characters, so your partner knows why you're recommending it. Ratings are stars and they're optional. Kaffe is free, has no ads, and works in the browser on both your phones.

Start your own reading circle: free, with just a name and a password. No email, no ads.

Questions

Can we keep a shared list?

Yes. Inside a circle you can build a shared list that every member can add books to.

Can my partner see everything I read?

Your full shelf only if you choose to share it with your circle. In a reading circle you do see each other's to-read lists, top picks and notes.

Do we both need an email?

No. Kaffe accounts use only a name and a password.

Can we add other friends later?

Yes. You can create more circles or send your circle link to others, and choose which circles see your shelf.
